Miracles part deux

I watched an interesting episode of "House" last night. House was his being his typical ornery self. It was a classic clash of science and faith or as the program purported it to be - between House and God.

The opening scene was pretty right on, it showed a young teenager "preaching" the Word concerning faith and healing. I couldn't find anything wrong with it, in fact, his sermon was something you would hear in Pentecostal churches across the country.

The teenager gets sick in the midst of praying for someone and goes to the hospital. He finds himself praying for a cancer patient, and her cancer goes into remission.

The program leads you to believe that there is a possibility that God really did do a miracle!

But, and I might say unsurprisingly, House comes up with scientific evidence for the remission and at the same time exposes the young teenagers sins.

Wow..So much there, the program raises more questions, I believe, than it answered.

Questions such as:

Can God uses someone who is (or did) participate in sexual immorality?
Is there scientific evidence for every miracle in the Bible?
If there is scientific evidence for a miracle - does that negate the miracle itself?

And then at the end of the program, Wilson makes a profound comment, "Just because you believe in something, doesn't mean that you are going to live up to it," speaking of the fact that the teenager really believed in faith and healing, but his life did live up to it.

Lots of questions - any answers out there?

I believe God can use anyone that did participate in sexual immorality. Maybe even more so because they actually have experienced it. (Not that it's something to be proud of). But it's like any other sin, you can't be living in it, you need to turn from it and change. That's where the part of the question asking can God use someone who IS participating in sexual immorality. Hmmm., that's a toughie. I have been around several individuals who have chosen to live in particular sins and it makes me not want to learn much from them. But then there are those God is using that I don't know about the sin they're living in. It's not so cut and dry.

God can use anyone in His plan. He uses an unfaithful woman to teach Israel about faithfulness in Hosea. He uses a prostitute (Rahab) to save His scouts. God can perform miracles through those He chooses. The primary words are, "those He chooses!" God makes those decisions, not man. And man cannot take God to task for doing so...we can ask the question because God doesn't mind questions but to somehow try to cast aspersion on Him for doing so would not be right.

I don't watch House, mainly because I don't like medical shows but also because I don't like folks in shows who act like they got where they are on their own. Where did they get their mind? Their inspiration? Their gift? All come from God so even the character House is a miracle from God. Where does science come from? It comes from God. Do we truly believe that God created this whole universe and did not expect us to explore it, both to the macro and micro levels? God created all things...and He still does. Man can decry the fact that God exists but he can't prove it. Neither can man prove that we exist because we exist...that's wonderful circular logic that is in favor in science. There is no evidence for an "accident" that created the universe, this Earth, or that we (human beings) evolved from sludge. How does science answer this accusation? We just haven't discovered the answer yet...but we will.

Miracles are a gift from God, whether divinely presented or delivered through the hands of man (i.e. doctor, scientist, etc.) as it were. It all comes from God.

Sorry about my diatribe about House, George. I know you like the show. But I really like to hear people praise God for their gifts...nothing makes me happier than to see someone accept an award or do something great and the first thing they say is, "I give all glory to God for..." God is good to us...He provides for us and cares for us and delivers us. God is good.

Love God for He is truly the creator of all things and the planter of miracles amongst us. Love people because that's one small way to show your love to God.

God loves you. Hold fast to that!
