working with a blog

I am really interested in using this as a tool to communicate with our congregation as to questions concerning the Bible, social issues, and world events. It would not be a tool for counseling as the posts are open for everyone to read. What do you think?

Yes, the blog is a place to converse with folks about the Bible, social issues, and world events. There are other avenues open to us to take care of day to day church business with those in our ministries (Email, IM, private links on our website).
To refer to Andy Stanley's book, "Creating Community," I see the blog as our "front porch" where we meet with the neighborhood (our community and world).
Emails, IM, and private links on our website are the "back yard deck," where we spend time with family and a few invited friends.
For instance, this present discussion is a "back deck" discussion. I would hope that the blog we are creating will be reserved for, as you stated, "Bible, social issues, and world events." For, it is true, all the world will see our "front porch."

I think many folks would be interested in bread for the journey.
