Living in Michigan, the question of who will play Ohio State in the College Football Championship in January has been a hot topic this past week.
Florida was chosen. I'm glad that they announced it Sunday night and not Saturday. It made my job a lot easier on Sunday morning.
Why was Florida chosen. The BCS "club" has everything so complex that it's hard for the "lay person" to really get a handle on it - what are "style points" exactly?
Let me tell you why I think Michigan was NOT chosen.
It's all about money.
A Michigan - Ohio State game would keep the T.V. demiographics to a limited area (the mid-west) thereby lowering the amount of people who would watch the game.
Forida or USC (before they lost to UCLA) would throw in people from the southeast or the west coast.
I really don't think Michigan had a chance to play Ohio State - besides, didn't they already have their shot?

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.
It is very confusing and will continue to be that way as there is no way to quantify teams unless they play each other.
It is all about money...which is why there is no playoff system in college football.
It is all about reaching the all important "nation-wide" demographic...thus USC or Florida are near perfect choices.
And Michigan already had their chance...and didn't take advantage of it.
Having said all of that...if the goal is to have the best two teams in the nation play each other, the BCS committee has failed. Florida will not be able to keep up with Ohio State, though I have a lot of respect for Coach Meyer and his ability to scheme a game. USC was too tempermental and had a tendancy to play down to their competition this year. Unfortunately, the second best team in the nation is truly Michigan...though they had their shot. But that is not important to the money guys.
God bless.
